Hello and welcome to the Melanin Unicorn Podcast, a weekly podcast that is dedicated to the upliftment of black women. I'm your host, Kerry, and today we are going to have a Black Woman Wednesday moment. Let's start the show. Thank you for tuning in once again to the Melanin Unicorn Podcast. I'm your host, Kerry, and today's episode is called Black Woman Wednesday Moment. It used to be called Affirmation Wednesday, but this show is about black women for black women by a black woman. So now that is the name change.
Kerry:So what exactly is a quote? Well, according to dictionarycom, it is to repeat a passage or phrase from a book, speech, or the like as by way of authority. So today's quote will be short, but it will be food for your thoughts, heart, mind, and soul. Today's quote comes from a beautiful sister named Oroma Elewa, a Nigerian visual and performance artist, writer, and creative director. In her art, Oroma examines social constructs and their impact on identity, thought, expression, and behavior. Her work is fundamentally concerned with reflecting upon and interrogating personal experiences that hold social, cultural, political, and racial import, contemporary womanhood, and, in her own words, facets of black identity, including the transnational African mindset, the diasporic experience and her possession of a black body. So Oroma's quote is called I am my own muse, and it is as follows I am my own muse, I am the subject I know best, the subject I want to better. So let's say that again I am my own muse, I am the subject I know best, the subject I want to better. Let's inhale and exhale. I want you to take that into your spirit because you are your own muse, you are the subject that you know best and you are the subject that you want to better.
Kerry:As we go down from this place, I just would love to thank you for tuning in to this episode for Black Woman Wednesday Moment. I'm so appreciative. Show notes will be available on Buzzsprout.
